Encoding, Decoding and Compression

Baseband video is encoded (DV, JPEG2000, MPEG, WM9 etc) to reduce data to suit recording or delivery. Generally encoding (one) is more complex making decoding (many) easier, and the encode/decode cycle reduces signal quality.
